Recruiter spotlight
Over the past two weeks, I talked to several impressive recruiters from a variety of industries. Safe to say, I have never conducted a job search at this scale before, so after my conversations entered the double digits, I started gleaning trends.
Here’s what really stood out to me:
Scheduling - getting time on the calendar
80% of the recruiters who used a scheduling app used Goodtime. Being able to enter my availability instead of typing it out on an email was a win! I do wish that scheduling apps could talk to each other… I have Calendly set up for myself, and being able to have the two talk to each other would be a game changer
Calendar - the event itself
Including the company name in the title - saved me lots of time. When this wasn’t the case, I would have to click in and remind myself of the company and role.
Bonus points when the channel was included - noting if it was going to be a phone call, or a Zoom with audio only, allowed me to prep my face (or not!)
Extra bonus points - When the role was listed in the calendar description. This was very helpful for companies where I had applied to several roles. Often times recruiters are staffed to very specific positions, and if you are applying to several jobs, you may end up talking to several recruiters. This attention to detail was extra delightful.
Engagement - the conversation
The most delightful conversations I had were ones where the recruiters referenced something from my resume. Recruiting, like job hunting, is a numbers game and this extra effort/ attention to detail really showcased the recruiters thoughtfulness
Next steps - what to expect
Most calls gave me a sense of when I could expect to hear back from them and let me know to reach out if I had any questions. Since I am working at scale here, this really allowed me to set up action items for outreaches. Some recruiters went so far as to let me know that the hiring manager would be out of town for a week, and that would delay the process a bit.
What have you seen that’s made your candidate journey stand out?
